A new website to champion a dynamic Northern city

Designing and building a new website for NewcastleGateshead to showcase the city’s diverse offer to a multitude of visitors.

The Problem

The NewcastleGateshead Initiative markets NewcastleGateshead on a national and international stage. Its mission is to inspire people to visit, and to live, learn, work and invest in the area. It is estimated that visitors to NewcastleGateshead from around the UK and overseas currently contribute £1.4bn annually to the local economy. Our brief was to design and build a consumer-facing website that was reflective of the personality, warmth and friendliness of the city, as well as showcasing the variety of offer in NewcastleGateshead as a place to enjoy city, coast and countryside, therefore encouraging longer stays.


The Solution

Utilising the Advanced Package on our DestinationCore platform, we created a site centred around editorial content, events and a comprehensive directory to showcase the city’s offering.

We incorporated clever search and filtering options onto key pages of the website to allow users to personalise their online experience.

Additional modules including the Experience Finder also give users additional opportunities to tailor the website’s content whilst the Itinerary Builder, to be added later in the year, will allow future visitors to plan their trips in detail.

The inclusion of the Events Package also ensures the site is the source of information on local events for visitors and local residents alike.
